Hatori is a member of the Sohma family, a family that is cursed to turn into a animal of the Chinese Zodiac, whenever they are embraced by someone of the opposite gender. Hatori was once part of family of three, with his father and mother. But his father died of an illness when Hatori were in high school and his mother died of an illness when he were in elementary school. Hatori's parents were very strict and it wasn't a paticularly warm home.
The memory suppression technique was passed down from his father. Not only can Hatori and his father use the technique, but it was a skill known and taught only by his side of the Sohma family. It's similar to hypnosis, really.
Hatori enjoys smoking and can hold his liquor. He's a little lazy in some respects, for example, when he undresses he tends to leave his clothes lying around. When he was in school, he was fairly popular with the students from the girls' school next door. But all three of the Mabudachi Trio were popular in that regard.
