Episode 2: The Sohma Curse
Back To: FB Summaries

Tohru runs through the house, carrying the dog, cat, and rat, in a
panic. The mailman stops by and she pleads with the man, yelling, "Look! They're animals!"
The mailman, thinking it's a kid's game, smiles and agrees happily that they are indeed animals.
Tohru goes on, trying to explain to the mailman that they must rush these animals to
the hospital, but everyone is suddenly quiet when the dog grabs ahold of the morning
mail in his mouth. "Hmm," smiles the mailman, "I wish my dog was this smart." The mailman smiles
and leaves Tohru alone, worried about the guys strange condition.
Before, she can figure out what to do, the cat and rat began arguing among
each other, with the dog trying to stop them. Tohru is shocked that the animals can talk! And that's
when Shigure decides to tell Tohru the truth, "I'm a dog, Yuki's the rat, and Kyo is the cat." For
one-hundred years, the Sohma family has been cursed. Whenever anyone from their family is hugged
by the opposite sex, they transform into the animals of the Zodiac. Shigure assures her that the
transformation isn't permanent, that they do change back, after a while. "There's just one problem,
when we change back." he says. "What is it?" asks Tohru. They transform back... "We're naked." he sighs.
Tohru runs away screaming.
After everyone has settled down and the guys are now dressed, Shigure points
out to Tohru that the cat Zodiac was sitting before her, in person. Tohru is happy, wondering about
this mysterious Kyo. But Shigure chimes in, pointing out that Kyo wasn't very graceful or cat-like,
letting Tohru fall on him, like that. He also comments how Kyo would be more friendly to her, if he
wasn't too busy brooding like a child. This sends Kyo into a heated shout! He yells that Tohru, an
outsider, and shouldn't be in the house in the first place. And how Tohru doesn't belong.
Yuki is now angry and points out that Kyo is the cat, therefore, he's the outsider.
And that besides, it was Shigure and Yuki's home and not Kyo's. In a rage, Kyo chops a table in half and
one half flies across the room and hits Tohru in the forehead... she is bleeding a little! Yuki quickly
smacks Kyo across the face, even though Kyo is sorry and didn't mean to hurt Tohru. While Shigure tends to
Tohru's cut, Yuki decides to give Kyo the fight he most desperately wants. They fight each other, but clearly
Yuki is stronger. He sends Kyo flying into the yard, with one mighty kick. Shigure is a bit peeved, because
Yuki sent Kyo crashing through the door of his home, damaging it. "I'm sorry." grins Yuki, "I didn't mean to
put him in the yard."
Tohru is worried about the well-being of Kyo, but Shigure assures her he's okay. That
Yuki and Kyo have been fighting this way for ages. He also asks if Tohru's dreams about being a cat is
now shattered, now that she's met Kyo. Before she could answer, a humiliated Kyo rushes away, leaving a sad
Tohru behind. She still is a fan of the cat. She also realizes that Yuki is ever so much like his nickname at
school, a "prince". And then she remembers... she's late for school! She runs around frantically, putting
on her uniform quickly, but then realizes it's SO dirty. She was wearing it, when she was trying to dig her
mother's picture out the landslide, the previous night. But determine to keep her promise to her mother, to
finish highschool, she goes to school with it on anyway.
But Uo helps out Tohru, letting Tohru use her washing machine to clean her uniform. Of
course Uo and Hana wants to know why Tohru's uniform was so dirty, but they're not the only ones. The Fanclub
girls want to know also, making fun of Tohru, commenting that maybe the Prince ditched her. Hana chases after
the screaming girls, ready to shock them. Later, Yuki runs into Tohru and asks if she told her friends, about
this morning. Tohru answers, "I told them that I had tripped." Then she realizes he means the Sohma secret.
Frantically, she tries to assure him that she didn't, quoting her mother on not gossiping. But then quickly
apologizes about Yuki not knowing her that well, to take her word. Yuki tries to explain that he believes her,
but Tohru goes on, so he pushes in, close to her.

Yuki: "That's not what I meant!"
Tohru: "Huh?"
He explains that he does believe her, but her memory may have to be erased anyhow. That
when the Sohma curse is discovered, that person's memories are often erased, to protect the family. He tells
her a story, of how he was playing in his yard, as a child. There were other children playing with him and a
girl accidentally fell on him. He transformed, in front of a group of children, and all of their memories had to
be erased. He assures her that it doesn't hurt and she would only loose her memories of meeting him or the
others. He apologizes and rush off. Tohru runs after him, tripping in the hall and falling onto Yuki, turning
him into a rat. She's facing a wall, apologizing a lot, for turning him into a rat. Yuki sighs and says it's okay,
as long as no one saw. She smiles and picks up the little rat.
Tohru thinks to herself, that having her memories erased sounds scary, but decides that it's not really
up to her to complain. The Sohmas have a right, to want to protect their secret. She smiles at Yuki and says, "It's okay, if
you want to erase my memory. Just promise we'll still be friends, okay?" He transforms back, a naked Yuki standing before her.
Of course, she screams and turns away, as Yuki quickly gets dress. He apologizes, explaining that transformation times varies.
He then comments that she saw him. She blushes and says, "Oh, no! I looked away in time!" "Not that." he says, "You saw me as
a rat and it didn't bother you." This is puzzling to him, because the head of the Sohma family, Akito, has told him as a child
that if anyone saw him in rat form, they would hate him. But Tohru didn't hate him. She wanted to be his friend.
Shigure talks with Akito. It is then that Akito tells him that erasing Tohru's memory may not be necessary.
That having Tohru around may be great opportunity for Yuki, as well as for everyone else. After school, Tohru heads for her room
at Shigure's home. She finds Kyo in there, patching up the hole in her ceiling. Before she can respond, Kyo growls at her to not
freak out, explaining that she can get a professional to fix it later. That this was just a patch, to keep the rain out. His temper
is high, but he tries to apologize to Tohru, for hitting her with the table. Before he could say, "I'm sorry", Shigure comes home
singing how Kyo better not be tearing up his house again. Kyo then leaves in a huff, Tohru rushing after him, asking Kyo to stay.
Shigure assures her that Kyo will be back, when the cat gets hungry.
He asks her and Yuki to sit with him, for a moment. Shigure tells them the good news, Tohru can stay, as
long as she keeps the secret. Tohru is happy with this news, but Yuki and Shigure are nervous, knowing Akito a lot more. They don't
know what Akito is planning, but decided to be happy for now, for Tohru. The next day, Tohru starts her job, as the housekeeper! She
stands outside the kitchen, that is filled with garbage and flies, eyes wide. She then snaps out of it, ready to take on this huge
challenge. Yuki offers to help, but Shigure says it's not a good idea. "He wouldn't know a mop." he says, "Besides that hairdo of his."
Tohru smiles and says it's okay, determine to keep her end of the bargain, for her room. Shigure leaves on an errand and Yuki takes a
walk, while Tohru cleans the kitchen. When Yuki comes back, the kitchen is clean and Tohru has made lunch for everyone.
As they are eating, Shigure rushes in, wearing a suit, and chasing behind a very pissed Kyo. He had made Kyo take
the exams at Yuki's highschool, therefore he would be in Yuki's class, and living with Shigure from now on. Yuki stands darkly, "Don't
you take a single bite! Get out!" Shigure laughs nervously, commenting that he thought Yuki may be angry. The next day at school, word
of Yuki's cousin spread. Many girls crowd around Kyo, asking about Yuki, thinking he had more information about the Prince. This is really
pissing off Kyo and he walks away. One girls grabs his arm, pleading for Kyo to tell her more about Yuki, and Kyo slams her to the floor,
twisting her arm! And then he hops through a window, landing on his feet like a cat, and runs off. Tohru sympathizes with Kyo.
Tohru: "Oh, mom... it's just like the story. The cat really is alone..."
