Episode 3: All Shapes And Sizes
Back To: FB Summaries

Yuki goes looking for Kyo and finds him hiding in the school yard. They get
into an argument, as Tohru makes her way closer to them. It's then, Kyo shouts that he wants to
beat Yuki and take his rightful place in the Sohma family. As they were about to fight, Tohru tries
to stop them, accidental hugging Kyo and turning him into a cat. She apologizes and tries to explain
that she didn't want Kyo to get in trouble, at school. Fighting is against the rules. But Kyo blows
up at her, calling her an stupid girl and demanding that she stay the hell away from him. Tohru is
crushed, walking away, now sad that Kyo hates her. Kyo doesn't mean these things, and is sorry, but
he fails to express that. Instead, he asks Yuki if he's going to smack him now. Yuki replies, "And
wouldn't it hurt more, if I didn't?" and walks away.
After school, Kyo lies outside of Shigure's study, commenting on how he was sorry
for the things he said to Tohru. Shigure teases that maybe he shouldn't say mean things, if he's just
going to regret it later. He also suggest to Kyo that maybe he should learn to control is temper. And
that, with time, Kyo may be able to have a friend. Kyo comments that no one would ever like him, but
Shigure insist it's possible. "Yeah," frowns Kyo, "If that person's retarded or something." "That's right,"
nods Shigure, "Keep positive!" Yuki peaks into the room, talking with Shigure, as Kyo slides out of sight.
Shigure suggests that maybe Yuki should walk Tohru home from work, that night.
Tohru walks home alone, worrying about Kyo hating her. She's near tears, thinking about
the things Kyo shouted to her. "Oh mom," she sighs, "I don't know what to do. I've never been hated before."
Her mother's voice and memory comes to her, telling her to just be herself. She then decides that's a good idea,
and she will try harder to be friends with Kyo. Suddenly she hears a noise behind her. She's afraid, remembering
what Shigure had warned, about the perverts and stalkers roaming the night. She sees a dark figure step out of the
shadows and scream, smacking her bag into the person's face. It's Kyo! Embarrassed, she tries to figure out how to fix
this awkward situation. She doesn't want to tell him the truth, that she thought he was an stalker. So, instead, she
makes up this frantic story that she was stretching her arm and her bag flew into his face, by mistake. But Kyo isn't
buying it.
He yells at her, telling her to just say if she's angry, if she is. Or just hit him again, if that
makes her feel better. She then realizes that Kyo was trying to apologize, and that earlier when he was patching her
ceiling, he was trying to apologize too. She decides to tell him the truth, that she thought he was an stalker, and that
she wasn't angry with him. Tohru also tells him that she loves the cat, in the Zodiac story, and how much she admires him.
Kyo responds, "What are you? Some kind of year of the cat fan?" He sighs, annoyed, and tells Tohru to come along with him
back to Shigure's house. Tohru is happy, thinking there is a chance they can become friends, after all.
The next day, at school, Tohru suggests that maybe Uo, Hana, and herself could play a card game
together. She asks Kyo to join them, he declines, until Uo teases him. Then he decides to play. Tohru looks around to
invite Yuki too, but he's not there. Yuki is the hallway, explaining to a girl, that he's not interested in being her
boyfriend. The girl doesn't listen and tries to hug him, but Yuki catches her head, holding her arm's length. He apologizes
as she stands away. The girl comments that he's been nice to her and she didn't understand why he didn't want a relationship
with her. Then she accuses him of being conceited, thinking he's too good for an ordinary girl. After that sad scene, Yuki
peeks into the classroom, watching Kyo and the others enjoy the cardgame, surrounded by classmates who teases Kyo playfully for
losing to Uo (a girl). Kyo seems to be fitting in fast, while Yuki leaves the room, sad.
Later, Yuki waits for Tohru, outside her work. He's there to walk her home and Tohru is happy. But she notices
that something is bothering Yuki. She offers to listen to him, but just then two men walk by, one drunk. The drunken man yells for
the two love-birds to get a room, pushing Tohru into Yuki. The men walk off, not noticing Yuki being turned into a rat. Tohru apologizes
for turning Yuki into a rat, once again. He sighs and assure her it's not her fault. So, they walk towards home, a girl and rat. He
explains how he saw Tohru, Kyo, and the others playing the game. But he was too shy to join in. That he's angry with Kyo, most of the time,
because Kyo wants to be a part of the Sohma family. Yuki, on the other-hand, has spent his life, trying to get away from the family. He
admires Kyo, because he's able to get along with people well. People want to talk to Kyo, naturally, because Kyo is so carefree. But Tohru
points out that Yuki is always nice to people.

Yuki: "I'm only nice, so people will be nice to me."
He explains that he's not kind, just because he wants to, he does it to be accepted. Therefore it's a
selfish kindness. Suddenly it rains and Yuki turns back to human, naked. Tohru screams and looks away. Yuki is worried about
something else. He gets dressed and rushes with Tohru to his secret fort. It's a secret vegetable garden he's been planting,
in the woods, near Shigure's home. Tohru volunteers to help Yuki protect the plants, from the wind and rain. Together they hold
a plastic sheet over the plants, sitting in the rain. Tohru then tells Yuki of the story her mother had told her, about how people
aren't born with kindness, it's learned. And how people have different shapes of kindness, as there are different people, with
different hearts. She explains that she sees Yuki's kindness as a candle. That it's a small light, but it's so bright, that whenever
he walks into the room things get brighter too.
Yuki blushes and Tohru is worried that Yuki think she's weird. Yuki explains that he's not use to talking
so freely about things, with people. Tohru encourages him that this is a sign that people are becoming closer friends, when they
can talk about anything. This makes both of them smile. After the rain stops, Tohru asks if anything is ready to be harvested from
the garden. Yuki looks for a while and says that the leeks are ready. Tohru thinks to herself, "Ugh! Leeks!", but smiles. That night,
Tohru cooks leeks for dinner. Kyo shouts, yelling that he doesn't like leeks! Shigure remembers, "Oh, that's right." Tohru apologizes
and offers to make something else for Kyo, but Yuki grabs Kyo's nose and shoves a huge clump of leeks into his mouth. "Eat." Yuki says,
coldly. Tohru tries to imagine Yuki and Kyo as friends, sitting by a sunset, each one apologizing to each other and vowing to be
friends. She then decides that her daydream seems too creepy.

Shigure: "Um, Yuki... Kyo's passed out, already..."
